Spatial Effects of High-speed Railway and Its Hot Issues

Abstract:

The current function of the high-speed railway is mainly passenger transportation. Its opening and running have continuously promoted the flow of population between regions, and thus produced a series of spatial effects on the “human-land” integrated system. The rapid development of high-speed railway has attracted general attentions from economic geography and urban planning researchers. However, relevant research results are mainly based on a single perspective to explore the spatial impacts of high-speed railway spacetime compression on the entire region or a certain industry, lacking summaries of highspeed railway’s spatial effects from a holistic perspective. Therefore, this paper tries to sort out the spatial effects of the high-speed railway on different spatial scales, and systematically summarizes related issues, including high-speed railway new city and high-speed railway new district; high-speed railway and regional space structure; high-speed railway and tourism; highspeed railway and air transportation; high-speed railway and city scale, etc from previous researches. It tries to identify the basis of previous research deficiencies and to put forward research prospects for new problems and new phenomena in the new era of rapid development of high-speed railway. After building the theoretical framework of the effect in the high-speed rail space, it would provide references for future research on high-speed railroads.
