Abstract：

In the analysis of the texture and morphology of several cities and towns in Francein a walking tour, the authorextractsfour kinds of public spaces for staying: ramps, tree corridors, arches and curved lanes. Several examples are givenand their spatial types, functional configurationand spatial relationshipsare analyzed. Through the analysis of the different properties andsocial relations of the places, the paperreveals why these placesare attractive for people to stop.
