Abstract:

Urban regeneration is an important issue in China’s urban transition from “increment” to “stock”. Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project is one of the most representative urban regeneration projects in New York. From declining to revitalization, its successful revival is due to the multiple promotion of development orientation, planning design and policy guiding. Based on the historical background and transformation process of the development and evolution of Hudson Yards, the regeneration strategies are explained from three levels: public transit oriented redevelopment, flexible rezoning, and the operation mechanism of multi-parties. With the upgrading of transportation infrastructure, a vertical and compact redevelopment of the region can be achieved; through flexible zoning, urban space can be reshaped; the regeneration efficiency can be improved by a collaboration model with multi-parties. Experience and inspirations are summarized from the three dimensions above, to provide references for China’s urban regeneration in terms of development orientation, planning and design, and operation mechanism.
