Abstract:

This article presents a theoretical foundation for equitable urban transportation systems. The article reviews the origins and evolution of equity philosophy, and summarizes the defining theories. The review pays particular attention to varied perspectives, varied scales, benefited and harmful aspects, different categories, and different methodologies applied. Work in this field in China emerged later, and the paper separately presents a summary of the various works produced by Chinese scholars. Finally, the article discusses the challenges and potential issues for future studies.
